Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: DHV Magellan Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

The DHV Magellan is Sam's mobile base in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach — a tar-diving vessel named after explorer Ferdinand Magellan, serving as both Sam's home and the primary fast travel system across Mexico and Australia.

There are 31 DHV Magellan docking destinations in total — 5 in Mexico and 26 across Australia — every major Facility, Shelter, and story location the ship can chart a course to once connected to the Chiral Network.

All 31 are included on MapMaster's Death Stranding 2 interactive maps.

Unlocking Fast Travel: Order No. 12

The DHV Magellan's fast travel capability unlocks at Order No. 12: Investigate the Unusual Tar Currents near F1, requiring Sam to defeat a giant Mech Octopus boss at West Fort Knot.

After the encounter, Tarman confirms the ship's mobility from Sam's private room aboard the vessel. Reaching this point typically takes between four and eight hours, depending on playstyle.

How Fast Travel Works

Open the Ring Terminal and select Chart Course, then hold the confirmation button to reveal every facility previously visited and already connected to the Chiral Network.

Selecting a destination submerges the ship through tar and resurfaces it at the chosen location — if Sam is physically aboard, he travels with it.

The DHV Magellan can also be summoned to relocate near Sam's current position without boarding it, using the same Ring Terminal menu, available immediately after Order No. 12 completes.

Carrying Cargo: The Magellan Evaluation Penalty

Unlike the original Death Stranding's Beach Jump system, the DHV Magellan allows Sam to bring cargo and vehicles along during fast travel.

However, completing a delivery Main Order or Sub Order this way triggers a Magellan Evaluation, reducing the Likes earned compared to a fully on-foot or ground-vehicle delivery.

Completing orders entirely without fast travel earns full recognition — reserve the Magellan for urgent deliveries, lost cargo retrieval, or fragile cargo that benefits from skipping rough terrain.

Crossing Continents

The DHV Magellan is the primary method for travelling between Mexico and Australia after the initial story crossing, using tar currents to move between continents instantly.

This makes it the most efficient way to revisit earlier regions for missed Orders, optional Facility connections, or Sub Orders once both continents are unlocked.

When the Magellan Is Unavailable

Certain story missions and tar current disturbances temporarily disable Magellan fast travel for the duration of specific narrative sequences.

There's no advance warning for how long these lockouts last — completing all desired travel and deliveries before accepting the next Main Order avoids being stranded mid-story.
